Convention time!

Good morning everyone. I know, I'm a day late this week, but I've got my reasons. Firstly, work is super busy, as I'm trying to get ahead of myself, because I've got the next two days off. "Why?", you ask. Because I'm off to the last convention of the year for me.

GridCon is in the South-West of the UK, relatively close to me, and hosted by Paul of Gaming Rules! It's a stark contrast to the brash, expansive, sales-oriented cons like UKGE. It's just a hotel full of nerds like me, playing board games for a few days, and I can't wait.

Over the last few years I've made some good friends in this hobby, but they're friends I only get to meet in-person a handful of times each year. This is one of those times.

Oh, there was a secondly, too. Reviews.

Games

For some reason, I thought a week where I have less time than usual would be a great time to try to get three reviews out in a week. All of them from French publishers too.

At the time of writing, I only have two of them published, but I reckon that's pretty good going for a Wednesday!

Hiroba Review - Punchboardpunchboard.co.uk Hiroba is a mix of area-control competition, with the rules of Sudoku. Quick to learn, tons of strategy, and cheap. Check it out.

Pearladora Review - Punchboardpunchboard.co.uk Pearladora is a mixture of bluffing and area control, as your divers aim to claim the most pearls. Read the full review of this quick game now

The third and final review will be for Demeter and its Autumn/Winter expansion, so I'll link to that in next week's newsletter, if you aren't signed up for subscription notifications on the site.

Winter blues

Just a small piece to end with, and I just want to ask you all to look out for those you care about over the next couple of months. Clocks have gone back an hour in most of Europe and the Americas, and the dark mornings and evenings can really take a toll on people.

I suffer with depression anyway, and I have to make a conscious effort to get outside, absorb some photons, and interact with people, so it doesn't creep up on me. So just try to say hello to your friends, family, and neighbours, and try to look out for one another.

Thanks all, and thanks to my current supporters: Mark, Becky, Gavin, Krissie, Paul, Brendan, Brett, and Gary. If you'd like to find out more about becoming a supporter, head to https://ko-fi.com/punchboard/tiers
